Pro-Trainer Rookie Champio
Valerie McDonald, Greeley, Co.

As I (Hickman) was posting the final results for Future Fortunes, a young girl approached me and asked if I new if she had won the Rookie Champion. “ If your name is McDonald you did” Amid the screams and tears of family and friends I figured out that she must be McDonald. “ This is why we work so hard at promoting Future Fortunes. Futurities are made up of a variety of people. We want to give the Breeder, the Owner and the Non-Pro the recognition they deserve.” (See letter below results)

To Future Fortunes,

In December 2002 my lifelong best friend, Kris Burden, went to Ok.City to sell a horse at the BFA horse sale. The last thing I told her was “don't buy me one…I want to pick out my own 7 year old gelding! “ When I got home from being out of town I found a beautiful 3 year old paint mare standing in my barn named Marble. I had never gone to any futurities but when I found out Marble was eligible for Future Fortunes, I made plans for the 2004 year. The first thing I did was hang the advertisement for the “ FUTURE FORTUNES-THIS COULD BE YOU – ROOKIE” on my living room wall. I looked at that ad every day since and dreamed about winning that.

I had never really worked with a young horse before. After many (many) hours of riding her and a lot of help from my husband to get her saddled, she started to become a little nicer and runnin better all the time!

As the BFA Finals were getting closer, I hauled her to as many barrel races as I could. I saw that Marble could be competitive and maybe I did have a chance at the Rookie title.

The day finally came that it was time to leave for Ok City to go to the BFA Finals. So my mom and I headed out, hoping that I could handle Marble on the ground and that she would run like I know she can.

Marble ran a 15.9 and a 16.1 in the futurity which was fast enough to win the FUTURE FORTUNES ROOKIE Saddle and $1000! My dream came true! Marble has really behaved herself- almost like an angel- but she will always live up to her name- VF Go Home Shecat.

THANK YOU FUTURE FORTUNES!
